Football Scholarship Offer – Choosing the Right School
To play at some level of college football, you will first need to have a football scholarship offer made to you. In fact, you may just have several offers to play college football before your high school playing days are over.
If you have gotten a football scholarship offer, you are most likely a blue chip player or you have marketed and promoted yourself the correct way to college coaches. Congratulations on a job well done!
Depending on what type of colleges you targeted and made initial contact with, you may be getting letters and phone calls from coaches at all levels:
– NCAA Division I
– NCAA Division II
– NAIA
– NCAA Division III
– NCCAA
– NJCAA
My best advice at this point is to not burn any bridges. Just because you have gotten a football scholarship offer, don’t stop communicating with coaches at other schools. Why? You never know how the future will work out. Even though you have got an offer, you may end up choosing another school or the coach may withdraw the offer to sign another player. It’s just how the process works.
College coaches always recruit multiple players for each position. You could end up being the second choice of several different coaches, so don’t close any doors until you actually signed a letter of intent to play somewhere.
Keep Your Options Open
I guess the key point here is to keep all your options open. The recruitment process is always tricky. Just when you think a coach is going to make you an offer, they may just stop communicating with you completely.
Don’t Make Up Your Mind Too Early
Don’t make up your mind that you have to accept the very first offer that comes your way. If it is the school you have wanted to play for your entire life, then go ahead and accept the offer. Otherwise, sit back and wait for a while to see what kind of other football scholarship offer you may get.
If you are a high school player hoping to get any kind of football scholarship offer in the future, start marketing and promoting yourself to college coaches right away. If you have the talent and skills to play at their level of play, college coaches will be happy to hear from you.
